During the period when Britain really gained its identity, Rochester was a much more significant place than it is today. Between 1485 and 1603, events of national significance happened here, fortunes were made - and left in trust for the benefit of the community (and still doing their work today!) - and at least three Rochester residents became the subjects of some of the most gruesome state executions!
